The Output of Cotton Decreased 1.8% in Xinjiang

    The output of cotton in Xinjiang is nearly 2.48 million tons which decreased 1.8% year on year. This year, Xinjiang will enhance output on the basic of controlling cultivated area to increase benefits.

    Though the output of cotton in Xinjiang decreased slightly, it is still accounted for 40% of domestic cotton output and 11% of total cotton output in the world. The superior position of Xinjiang cotton is not changed.

    Xinjiang has the unique environment to develop cotton industry. According to The Planning of Agriculture Modernization in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (2011-2020), the output of cotton in Xinjiang will reach 3 million tons in 2015 and 3.5 million tons in 2020. In order to upgrade the industry and increase benefits, Xinjiang will control the cultivated area within 23 million mu and focus on developing cotton with high output and good quality.
