[Knitting] Operation Performance of China Knitting Industry in Q1, 2011

The number of China’s above-scale knitting companies declined to 5,285 from 8,026 after the calibrating bar of above-scale companies being raised to 20 million RMB (sales revenue) since 2011.

Primary indicators suggested that the overall situation of China knitting industry over the first quarter of 2011 remained positive

Output & sales saw regular growth

Accumulated industrial output of China knitting industry over the first three months of 2011 reached up to 112.218 billion RMB, rising by 26.77 percent from the previous year. Overall sales totaled 109.862 billion RMB, rising by 26.53 percent year-on-year. The sales-to-production ratio was 97.9 percent.

Around 2.602 billion pieces of knitted garments were manufactured over the first quarter, rising by 16.42 percent from the same period of 2010 with growth outpacing apparel industry average. The output of knitted garments in March, however, declined by 12.72 percent from February.

Domestic market shored up the whole industry

Domestic sales of China knitting industry over the first three months reached 71.075 billion RMB, accounting for 64.69 percent of overall sales.

Fixed-asset investment saw noticeable growth

Fixed asset investment of knitting industry accumulated up to 8.421 billion RMB, rising by 26.72 percent from a year earlier. The number of newly initiated programs and wrapped-up programs, however, all declined to a certain extent from the same period of last year.

Export saw growth both in price and quantity

Since the beginning of 2011, the export of knitted textiles has been maintaining an upward tendency. Impacted by the raw material price surge, the average export price has seen widespread increase.

Around 1.422 billion meters of knitted fabrics were exported for the first three months of 2011. Accumulated value reached $2.055 billion USD, rising by 31.53 percent year-on-year with average price rising 20.83 percent from a year earlier. Sales of above-scale knitting companies in Q1, 2011 reached 108.352 billion RMB, rising by 27.12 percent year-on-year. Overall profit reached 2.959 billion RMB, up 35.12 percent.

949 knitting companies faced deficit in the first quarter of 2011, accounting for 17.69 percent in proportion. Overall employee of China knitting industry in the first quarter were 1.392 million, rising by 4.23 percent year-on-year.
