High Demand Drives Functional Fabric Progress

    Functional fabric has become the best seller of the fabric sale this summer. The successful development of functional fabric will inevitably lead a revolution of production in middle and upper reaches of textile plants, from yarn plants to after finish plants. Currently, functional fabric development has been carried out by textile plants in full swing.
    Besides the common functionality used in public garment fabric, some new Nouns has come to our eyes, such as coffee fiber, fragrant fiber, heat preservation fiber, ecological warm cotton, soil release fiber, silver fiber and etc. Various functionalities come to us incessantly.
    The inevitable choice of increasing cost
    Due to raw material cost increase and labor cost increase, increasing products’ added value has become the only road for enterprises to come out.
    Over the past year, cost increase has become the common difficulty for almost all enterprises. Cost increase means traditional products’ price superiority is weakened, therefore, functionality becomes the only way out.
    Under such a background, we find that, on one hand, mixed weave of cotton, hemp, silk, fur with chemical fiber has become the fabric weaving trend; and on another hand, many enterprises has resorted to natural fiber fabric development with hemp and linen fibers. A principle of China DT-Ramie Co., Ltd. told the journalist, fibers extracted from hemp, soybean and some other agricultural crops are not only environment friendly, but also soft and comfortable after it is made into fabrics, which can nicely replace of cotton. Such kind of environmental friendly fabric, to some extent, mitigated the cost pressure brought by violently increased cotton price.
     Silk is originally weak in functional development, yet, the vice president and secretary of Hangzhou Silk Industry Association, Ren Dongmao said, raw material price increase also brought about the structural change of silk products. In the second half of last year, cocoon silk price mounted up to 0.43 million CNY/t, which was almost forth fold, comparing with the price of 0.13-0.14 million CNY/t in 2008. Wuyue, a principle man of Huzhou Runyuan Silk said, in the second half of the year, his company has contributed to developing mixed fabric of silk and rayon, polyester fiber and spandex to meet the demand of more people. In this way, the fabric not only features in silk fabric, but also possess another kind of functionality.
Making functional fabric is the main method for upgrade and transformation.
    Industry upgrade and transform, creating brands, improving technology, plants should resort to functional fabric.
    See from production, functional fabric production can be classified into two types; one is public conventional functional products, which makes profits mainly from quantity sale. Anther type is high value added products through self development. With industry upgrade, upstream plants invest more and more, striving to occupy the market share by technology.
    Grow up with consumers
    Demand is the best driving force. The consumer market come to know and familiar with functional products.
    For a long time, the popularization work of China textile and garments plants towards consumers are still insufficient. Consumers have very little knowledge about functional fabric garments. The hot sale functional fabric garments are still relatively conventional, such as moisture absorption and perspiration, antibacterial, deodorant and etc. Meanwhile, China consumers are more sensitive to price, but not the functionality, while oversea consumers will consider more on the garments’ functionality.
    But, for the recent years, the functionality cognition of textile products among China consumers is deepened. According to survey, countries that have the deepest cognition level are Germany (71%) and Japan (70%), followed by China (65%). In Germany, over 90% consumers know the functionality of easy care, while in Germany and Japan, most consumers know the functionality of anti-wrinkle and water proof.
    National Textile Product Development director, Li Binghong think, see from product trend, people all over the world pay more attention on environmental protection. Technology improve brought about the transformation of consumption demand and commercial mode. In the future, the competitive products development should base on consumers’ interest and consumption ability, integrating multiple factors like fashion, functionality, eco-friendly and etc.
    See from market consumption, in China, more and more enterprises come to focus on textile functionality publicity, with the domestic sale further deepened, functional textile products will surely become another new profit point.
