It is reported by the Cotton Institute of China Academy of Agricultural Sciences on January 14, 2011 that the output of cotton in China reduced 14.6% in 2010 year on year, which is 5700 thousand tons and the main reason is the cotton unit output influenced by the abnormal weather.
The calculation of the Cotton Institute based on the research towards 1121 Cotton households and the result is far lower than the output expectation of 6650 thousand tons by China Cotton Association. And the output of 6650 thousand has reduced 2.1% compared to the output in 2009.
It is reported that the cultivated area of cotton is 5050 thousand hectares in 2010 as same as in 2009.
And, the raw cotton yield is 3.36 ton per hectares, which reduced 14.6% compared to the yield in 2009.
The CNCRC (China National Cotton Reserves Corporation) estimated in Dec that the output of cotton may reduce 5.5%, which may reach 6360 thousand tons.
